Christian Education
Christian Education for Youth is held on Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 10:15 am, and is divided into three classes based on The Journey to Adulthood program.

Rite 13: This class spans the 6 th -8 th grade years and explores what it means to be a young man or woman. Its milestone is the Rite-13 Liturgy held each spring.

J2A ( Journey to Adulthood ): This class spans the 8 th –10 th grade years. Students examine the passage to adulthood and the deepening of Christian faith. Milestone events include an Urban Adventure and a Pilgrimage.

YAC ( Young Adults in the Church ): This class spans the 11 th -12 th grade years. Students begin to consider more fully what it means to be an adult in the church and society by considering questions of college, vocational discernment, civic responsibility, as well as personal and financial stewardship.

For more information about The Journey to Adulthood classes, please contact Kelly Ryan Smith at kryansmith@carolina.rr.com or 704-644-7854 (home), 704-530-9150 (cell) or David Easterly at david.easterly@wachovia.com or 704-556-1172 (home).

Episcopal Youth Community
On Sunday evenings, all 6th through 12th graders are invited to attend Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) activities.   Youth and adult leaders gather for fun and fellowship, and frequent ‘off-campus’ activities.

Our youth are encouraged to participate in Diocesan activities, which include special events and trips.  For more information on Diocesan Youth events, click here.

Confirmation
Preparation for confirmation is offered in conjunction with the Journey to Adulthood classes, and students generally become eligible during their sophomore or junior year of high school.  For more information about Confirmation, please contact Kelly Ryan Smith at kryansmith@carolina.rr.com or David Easterly at david.easterly@wachovia.com.

Pilgrimage
Christians have always made pilgrimages to holy places as a part of their life of faith and going on a pilgrimage is a principle milestone of the Journey to Adulthood curriculum and follows the second year of the J2A class (early high school). It is not a mission trip or vacation, though new sites will be seen and some service projects may be undertaken.  Students, leaders, and parents prayerfully consider the pilgrimage destination.  Students are responsible for initial trip preparations, fundraising a third of the costs, paying for a third of the costs, and requesting the final third of the costs from the Vestry. Pilgrimage occurs every two years, and takes place during the summer. For more information on Pilgrimage, please contact Kelly Ryan Smith at kryansmith@carolina.rr.com or David Easterly at david.easterly@wachovia.com.
