The Verger is a ministry of the laity who serves the rector in the preparation for and conduct of public worship. “Service Vergers” go through a period of training involving a home-study course from the national Vergers’ Guild of the Episcopal Church. Upon completion of that course, time spent working with the Altar Guild and training, the new verger is commissioned to serve at Holy Comforter. There is also a Vergers’ Guild that includes Service Vergers, vergers in training and anyone interested in studying the liturgy and history of the Episcopal Church.
