Children (newborn to fifth grade) are served by the Children’s Ministry, under the direction of Mrs. Lauren Cavins and ministry assistant Ms. Liz Pack.
Infants and children to three years old are encouraged to relax in our Nursery on Sunday mornings, where children are cared for in safe and enjoyable classrooms.  The Nursery is open from 8 am to noon on Sundays.  Please ask one of our Hosts for directions to the Nursery if you are visiting!  The classrooms are divided by age, and this information is posted outside each room.  If you have questions about Nursery facilities, supervisors, snacks, or age groups, please contact Lauren Cavins at laurenc@holycomforter-clt.org or Liz Pack at lizp@holycomforter-clt.org or call them at 704.332.4171 extension 209.

Children’s Christian Education

On Sundays, from 9:15 to 10:15 am, children are invited to participate in Christian Education.

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculum for children is divided into three parts:

Ages 4 to 6 are in Atrium One, where they learn about the altar, and grow familiar with the liturgy, the seasons of the church, the sacraments, and the prayers.  The consistent message of Atrium One is God’s unending love for us.

Ages 7 to 9 are in Atrium Two, where a deeper understanding of our worship services and the Bible are developed.  Children explore the sacrament of Communion, discover the gifts of God’s creation, and are encouraged to develop their relationship to God.

Fourth graders are in Atrium Three, where we explore in greater depth the Plan of God and our place in it.

5th graders are taught the Episcopal Children’s Curriculum, which focuses on the purpose of worship: coming together to hear God’s word before going forth to live in faith.

Children’s Chapel

During the 10:30 Worship Service, all children aged four to 2nd grade are encouraged to follow the cross out of the sanctuary to Children’s Chapel.  In Children’s Chapel, children enjoy age-appropriate worship, including songs and lessons, led by adult volunteers.  A collection is taken, to encourage the lesson of giving for our children.  Children return to the service in time to participate in Communion with their parents.

Children’s Chapel Shepherds are 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who are charged with ringing the bell to announce the commencement of worship, assisting the adult leaders during Children’s Chapel, and delivering the children’s collection during the Offertory.

Summertime Vacation Bible School is also available at Holy Comforter.

All aspects of the Children’s Ministry include adult volunteers.  If you are interested in acquiring further information about the Ministry, or becoming a volunteer, please contact Lauren Cavins at laurenc@holycomforter-clt.org or Liz Pack at lizp@holycomforter-clt.org or call them at 704.332.4171 extension 209.
